Morningscore Review: The SEO Tool Made for Small Businesses and Beginners

Disclosure: I'm Morningscore's fractional CMO. The opinions below are my own.

TL;DR: Morningscore is a guided SEO and GEO tool built for small businesses, in-house marketers and teams without SEO expertise. It tracks your Google rankings, backlinks, site health, competitors and AI visibility in one place, then tells you what to fix next. Every plan includes the full tool, so a small business doesn't need to stack a second subscription on top. Specialists who live in huge backlink and keyword databases are the exception.

Rating: 4.9/5

Why this review exists

Most SEO tools hand you 40 dashboards and wish you luck. Morningscore hands you a task list with a progress bar. That one decision explains almost everything about the product, the good and the bad.

This review covers every feature, the pricing, who should buy which plan, and where it falls short. If you're still comparing options, Morningscore also has a roundup of the best SEO software for small businesses.

What Morningscore is

Morningscore is an all-in-one SEO and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) tool. It was founded in 2018 in Denmark by Karsten Madsen, who also co-founded the digital agency Morningtrain. The company says it's used by 4,000+ companies, supports 167 countries and scans 1 million Google AI Overviews a month.

You add your website and Morningscore starts giving you customized suggestions on what to improve, with explanations of why and how to fix each issue. You also get suggested missions, which are goals you can work toward. The trial is 14 days, with no credit card and full access. The full list is on the features page.

Who it's for (and who it isn't)

Good fit:

  • Small business owners, founders and generalist marketers without an SEO hire.
  • Local service businesses, content and SaaS teams, and ecommerce stores. There are WordPress and Shopify plugins.
  • Teams training interns, juniors or virtual assistants. Morningscore says 50+ customers bought it for exactly this reason, and it has a page on training SEO interns and juniors.
  • Anyone who wants SEO and AI visibility under one login instead of two subscriptions.

Think twice if:

  • Your work is heavy-duty link building. Morningscore itself says Ahrefs is hard to beat there.
  • You run an agency with 50+ client accounts or need enterprise-scale data volume.
  • You need prompt analytics across a dozen AI models and many markets. A dedicated tool goes deeper.

Every feature, explained

1. Overview dashboard

One screen with all your SEO and GEO metrics. It tracks all keywords found for your website and compares everything against your competitors. Two scores sit on top:

  • SEO Score: calculates your traffic and its monetary value.
  • GEO Score: tracks AI visibility across 100 prompts.

The monetary value is the underrated part. When your boss or client asks "what is SEO worth?", you have a number, not a shrug.

2. Keywords

  • Rank Tracker: daily updates for the keywords you add, with historical positions, keyword grouping in folders and favorites.
  • See all keywords for any website, not just yours.
  • Keyword research: find new keywords, with suggestions and keyword difficulty.
  • Competitor comparison: compare your rankings against rivals.
  • Multi-country tracking: add the same site again for another Google country, across 167 countries.
  • 40,000 keywords per website per country: the API can pull up to 40,000 keywords ranking in positions 1 to 20, found automatically when you set up a site.

Tracked keywords by plan: 100 on Lite, 500 on Business, 2,000 on Pro and 5,000 on Premium. Keywords and links update daily.

Search rank tracking is Google only. Morningscore says it reports data from Google exclusively, and that the focus is what lets it build a polished product.

3. AI search and GEO tracking

This is included in every plan, not sold as an add-on. It covers:

  • GEO Score: measures AI visibility.
  • AI prompt tracker: set your own prompts to track or add from suggestions, then watch progress over time in graphs and compare with competitors. Not sure what to track? Morningscore has a guide on how to find prompts to monitor for your business.
  • Google AI Overviews tracker: every tracked keyword gets AI Overviews data every day. You can see the exact AI Overview text, with your brand highlighted, the URLs Google cites as sources, and which competitors show up next to you. It exports to CSV.
  • GEO Health: goes past measurement and tells you what to fix to move the score. It was added in the 4.4 release.

Morningscore's latest article, the 10 best GEO tools in 2026, describes tracking of citations in Google AI Overviews and AI answers across ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Perplexity and Claude. Its feature pages describe visibility in Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT. The AI tracking data in the API is listed as coming soon.

Want to improve the numbers, not just watch them? Start with how to rank in Google AI Overviews as a small business and the micro long tail tactic for GEO.

4. Website health check

The health tool crawls your site and gives a 0 to 100 score, with automatic grades on all your pages. It prioritizes basic, technical and content issues based on Google's guidelines, and scans for 30+ problem categories such as missing image alt tags, too-long title tags, oversized images and slow page speed.

For most of those problems, AI can fetch a solution. You get automatic fixes with one click, through the tool, the CMS plugins or the API. Each AI fix costs 1 AI credit.

One thing to know: health doesn't update daily on its own. It updates on demand when you start a scan, and scans count against your plan's monthly limit.

Max URLs scanned per website: 250 on Lite, 5,000 on Business, 25,000 on Pro and Premium.

  • Link Score: an overview of your backlink profile.
  • All backlinks to any website, including backlinks from competitors.
  • New and lost links, tracked daily.
  • Guides for building more links.
  • Scan websites for links and keywords.

Link data comes from Moz. The API returns the top 5,000 linking domains for any website. Morningscore is upfront that if your needs are heavy-duty link building, you should consider Moz, Ahrefs or Semrush.

6. Missions (the gamified checklist)

This is the signature feature. Missions work like an SEO to-do checklist, prioritized by algorithms and AI, aimed at the tasks with the biggest impact on your SEO. You earn XP and level up as you complete them. If you don't know where to start, the human chat team will advise.

It sounds like a gimmick until you watch a junior or a VA actually finish SEO tasks because there's a progress bar.

7. Plugins, AI writing and automation

  • RANK AI plugin for WordPress and Shopify. It automatically scans issues, suggests fixes and pushes updates.
  • Rank Writer: connects to the CMS plugins to publish articles.
  • Auto-generated premium articles: based on a keyword, scraping your website to make the article unique. Each article costs 1 AI credit.
  • Boost SEO of any page in 1 click.
  • Full API in all plans, at 2 requests per second.

AI credits reset monthly: 100 on Lite, 1,000 on Business, 5,000 on Pro and 20,000 on Premium.

8. Competitor analysis

Competitor analysis tools are in every plan. Your competitors' data sits right next to your own, with table and graph comparisons for keywords and links. Domain comparisons use the domain overview and competitor keyword rankings, and you can see the search results for any keyword where you or a competitor ranks. Morningscore's stance is simplicity and overview, not the deepest possible competitor database.

If you're coming from another tool, Morningscore publishes head-to-head pages for Ahrefs and Moz.

9. Reports

Customizable PDF reports are included in every plan. Morningscore also lists email reports, white-label reports and CSV export among its tools, plus smart user management for teams.

10. Support and training

Morningscore says every plan includes unlimited chat support, with real SEO experts answering within a few minutes. The advice is about SEO, not just how to use the tool.

Journey is the structured option: a 12-month programme with 1:1 training, an SEO course and more, launched in 2025.

Where the data comes from

Morningscore collects premium data from 7 partners and pulls it on demand when you type in a website. That makes the data fresher, and the first load a little slower, roughly 10 seconds instead of 3. The company says you can expect data on par with Semrush, Ahrefs and Moz, while admitting their databases are much bigger. It also says the raw keyword and backlink database is smaller than what Ahrefs or Semrush maintain.

Pricing

Every plan includes the full tool. There are no add-ons. The plans differ by limits, and the trial gives you the full feature set with fewer credits. Current numbers are always on the pricing page.

  • Lite includes 2 users.
  • Paying yearly gives 2 months free.
  • The trial is 14 days, with no credit card and no invoice at the end.
  • There is no free plan. Morningscore says no premium SEO tool offers one, because accurate data is expensive.
  • Paid plans let you add more websites, keywords, health scans, missions, reports, keyword research and users.

Which plan? Lite is built for a small business starting out: 3 websites, 100 keywords, 2 users. If you manage several sites or brands, or track a longer keyword list, Business at $99 is the next step. Pro and Premium fit larger projects and teams.

How the price compares. In its own May 2026 comparison, Morningscore puts Ahrefs' smallest plan at $129/mo and says matching Morningscore's included features with Ahrefs add-ons adds up to $626/mo. Treat that as the vendor's own math.

What customers report

These are customer results published by Morningscore, so read them as vendor-reported:

  • Nordthy, a Danish food brand, nearly tripled organic traffic and ranked for more than twice as many keywords.
  • Servicepos reported a 30% increase in leads and 65 keywords in Google's top 10 within three months.
  • One customer called the site audit a "huge eye-opener" after it surfaced dead links, missing meta descriptions and duplicate H1s that nobody had noticed.

On the training side, Morningscore says customers who bought it to train juniors cite the simple interface, the guided health checks, the mission system and the human chat support.

FAQ

Is Morningscore good for beginners?

Yes. It turns SEO health into a single 0 to 100 score and turns fixes into step-by-step missions, so you always know what to do next without learning jargon first.

Does Morningscore track ChatGPT and AI Overviews?

Yes. The AI prompt tracker and GEO Score cover AI answers, and the AI Overviews tracker covers Google, with daily updates per keyword.

Do I need to install anything?

No. The WordPress and Shopify plugins are optional.

Is there a free trial?

Yes, 14 days with full access and no credit card. You won't get an invoice when it ends.

Do I need another tool alongside it?

For a small business, no. Specialists doing heavy link building or enterprise-scale research may still want a deeper data tool.

My verdict

Morningscore is enough for a small business. It covers rankings, backlinks, site health, competitors and AI visibility, it tells you what to do next, and every plan gets the full tool. You don't need another subscription to run SEO for a small site or a few of them.

The only people who should look past it are the ones whose job is data depth: link-building specialists, enterprise-scale sites and agencies with dozens of client accounts.

Final score: 4.9/5
